A Young Man’s Search for Truth
Ali wasn’t someone we knew. He didn’t follow our page "Future Under Construction" regularly, but one day, a comment he left caught our attention; harsh, sarcastic, and filled with caricatures mocking Christ, priests, and the Christian faith. While many might have ignored or blocked such interaction, we saw something else: an opportunity.
We reached out privately, not to debate, but to gently offer a healthier and clearer understanding of biblical truth. Our goal wasn’t to win an argument, it was to reflect Christ, even in digital conversations. From the start, Ali’s messages were intense. He overwhelmed us with offensive content: memes, copied comparisons between the Bible and the Qur’an, personal interpretations, and long paragraphs sourced from the internet. He mixed topics, flooded us with questions and counterclaims, and seemed more determined to argue than to understand. We later discovered he managed a Facebook page where he posted this material regularly, often without verifying its accuracy.
Ali’s communication style was combative and repetitive. He often ignored responses, simply sending more content. It was clear he wasn’t used to constructive dialogue. But beneath the noise, we sensed something deeper: curiosity cloaked in confrontation, and maybe even a personal struggle. So we slowed down the pace. We encouraged him to ask one question at a time and to reflect before replying. We urged him to step away from sarcasm, memes, and misinformation, and instead bring us his real thoughts and concerns. At one point, he even accidentally sent a "Good Morning" image, an oddly personal moment that reminded us there was a real person on the other side of the screen.
We prayed for Ali constantly. His tone tested our patience, but love guided our response. We focused on calming his approach and turning the conversation toward Christ.
Bit by bit, we shared the truth of the gospel:
-
The character and attributes of God
-
The nature of the Trinity
-
The incarnation of Christ
-
The reliability and consistency of Scripture
-
The message of salvation through grace
-
The hope of eternal life
-
The divine nature of Jesus and the meaning of His work
We answered Ali’s questions, some repeated, some genuine. We reminded him that we weren’t trying to silence him or score points, but simply to present a truth that speaks for itself. Then, one day, Ali wrote:
“My friend, I don’t earn anything from my posts or writings… but O Lord, if only I could win a human heart.”
That line said more than all his arguments. He later asked: “Can I post our conversation on my page? Let’s take it public.” We gently declined. We explained that our purpose wasn’t publicity or performance. Our time, we told him, was dedicated to those who genuinely seek truth, not to generating traffic or fueling debate.
At the end of our conversations, we shared with him a prayer and a summary of the gospel. His tone was softer. His words, are more reflective. And then, something unexpected happened. Ali told us that the conversation had challenged his thinking more than he anticipated. He said that the way we presented the Christian message gave him a new perspective, not built on the distortions he had encountered before, but on clarity, grace, and Scripture.
He admitted that many of his previous ideas about Christianity had been formed through biased sources, sarcasm, and misinformation. For the first time, he began to seriously consider that maybe, just maybe, there was more to Christ than he had ever realized. He said:
“You didn’t just argue, you listened. You helped me see something I had never seen before. This conversation changed how I view Christianity.”
